钟志邦 新加坡公民。1942年出生于马来亚半岛的怡保,并在附近的红坭山村长大。曾受教育于新加坡南洋大学,英国伦敦,爱伯丁,牛津和美国哈佛大学,主修文学,神学,圣经学与哲学,是一位自修的学者-艺术家。现任北京大学以及中国和香港多所重点大学的客座教授。新加坡现代画会会员以及新加坡艺术协会的永久会员。
钟志邦自认按本性和气质是一位“浪漫主义者”,对大地有一份厚重的感情,对上帝的创造具深切的关怀。“乡土”是他最喜爱的绘画主题。对他而言,整个宇宙就是一件最优秀的杰作。虽然他从童年开始就热爱绘画,如今也把绘画看作是神学的思考和表达。从中国水墨和水彩画开始,他现在创作的媒介也包括油彩,胶彩,粉彩,碳笔和拼贴。作为新加坡现代画会的成员以及新加坡艺术协会的永久会员,他经常参加国内以及至今超过12个国家的国际展出。 1987年获得新加坡美术协会的“陈之初奖”。也是同年新加坡大华银行(UOB) 全国绘画比赛国画组的冠军,并紧接三年(1988,89,90)获得新加坡大华银行全国绘画比赛的特优奖(Distinction Award)。这也可能是一项记录。他的画作收藏于Citibank, UOB, DBS, 新加坡政府部门,新加坡国立大学图书馆,三一神学院,以及澳大利亚,英国,加拿大,德国,印尼,马来西亚,纽西兰,新加坡和美国的私人收藏。
Prof Choong, a Singaporean, was born in Ipoh,
Malayan Peninsula in 1942, and brought up in
“Bukit Merah” (“Red Hill”),a nearby village.
Educated at Nanyang, London, Aberdeen, Oxford
and Harvard Universities in literature, theology,
biblical studies and philosophy, Prof Choong is
a self-taught scholar-artist. He is currently a
Visiting Professor of Peking (Beijing) University
and a number of other leading universities in
China and Hong Kong. He considers himself a
“romantic” by nature and temperament, with a
strong emotional attachment to the great earth
and a profound concern for God's creation.
“Homeland”has been his mostfavourite theme.
For him, the whole universe is a master piece
of artworkpar excellence. While painting has been
his passion since childhood,he now regards it as
a theological reflection and expression as well.
Beginning with Chinese ink on rice paper and water
colours, he also works with other mediums, including
oil, acrylic, pastels, charcoal and collage.
As an active member of Singapore's prestigiousModern
Art Society and a life member of the Art Society of
Singapore, Professor Choong participatesregularly
in art exhibitions locally and internationally in
more than twelve countries so far.
He was given the “Tan Tsze Chor Art Award” by
the Singapore Art Society in 1987,and won 1st prize
in the same year in the Chinese painting category
at the UOB Painting of the Year Competition, which
is a most prestigious nation-wide art event in Singapore.
And for the following three consecutive years, from
1988 to 1990, he also received UOB's “Distinction Award”,
possibly a record so far. Collections of Prof Choong's
artworks are found in Citibank, UOB, DBS, Singapore
Government Ministries, library of the
National University of Singapore, Trinity Theological
College as well as in private collections in Australia,
Britain, Canada, Germany, Indonesia,Malaysia, New Zealand,
Singapore and the United States.
